Mullet Ranch FAQ’s

1.  Question: What is the Mullet Ranch?

Reply: The Mullet Ranch started in 2001 when we bought our place in Englewood. We needed a name, and since fishing for Mullet is one of our favorite things to do, The Mullet Ranch was born!

2.  Question: Where is the Mullet Ranch located?

Reply:      The Mullet Ranch is located in Englewood, Fl.  That is 1.5 hours south of Tampa, or 1 hour north of Ft.Myers.

3.  Question:  Do I need to bring my own bike?

Reply:       Yes, unless you don't have one and still want to come and learn to race. In that case we'll arrange a rental bike...not cheap.

4.  Question:  I already race for a team. Is the Mullet Ranch still a good choice?

Reply:      Absolutely, our camp has a lot to offer all racers from beginner to Cat 1. First and foremost we have the best riding in Florida: Hundreds of miles of deserted, paved roads all within minutes of the ranch. Perfect for listening to your coach, building lots of base miles while you work on your tan, talking to teammates, or just putting your head down and hammering all out without fear of dodging cars.

 5.  Question: Are there any complaints about the terrain?

Reply:      Yes, there are no hills at all. If you need hills the only suggestion I have would be to wait until we open in Asheville, NC next summer.

  6.  Question: Can I bring my family?

Reply:      Of course, we are all about family. Your accommodations would change, but that isn't a problem at all. Let me know and I can arrange housing. There are plenty of activities to keep everyone busy while on your bike. For example the beaches, dining, and shopping on Boca Grande are a blast. While I would rather be on my bike I am always available to give airplane rides and flight instruction, and of course Captain Dixon can take your family fishing.

    7.  Question: What if I have a question not listed here?

Reply:      Do exactly what a friend would do: Call me and ask. 859-492-9867

    8.  Question: Is there a photographer available to capture my vacation?

Reply:     My wife Shari is a professional photographer who is rarely seen without a camera slung over her shoulder. She will capture, free of charge, all of your mad bike racing skills during your week with us. She is also available for family beach shots for a small fee... probably free if your kids are really cute.

   9. Question: Do I need to rent a car?

Reply:      You may want to consider renting a car. If you drive to the Mullet Ranch obviously you won’t need to. Flying into Tampa or Ft, Myers and renting a car to drive to the ranch is ideal. That way you have transportation other than your bike to get around town for shopping trips or trips to the beach.

    10. Question: Can you have an all women’s camp?

Reply:     No problem for any of us. As a matter of fact for the group that prefers a female coach we have Tracy Tolson. She is the ultimate, tough bike racer, also a multiple National Champion and wife of Curtis. Spending the week on the bike with Tracy would be a-dream-come-true for most female bike racers. As with all of our guests, the week culminates in a trip to a Florida Points Series bike race.

   11. Question: Is there a minimum or maximum number of guests for each camp?

Reply:      8 is the minimum number of guests we need to run a camp. It also happens to be the maximum number preferred. Any more and simple things get complicated. Travel to the races, going out to dinner, and one on one time with your coach all start to get difficult. With that said, last year we did a camp with 21 guests and had a blast. So while 8 is the magic number we still tailor every camp to your group.

     12. Question: Can we stay at the Mullet Ranch?

Reply:     Your first trip down everyone stays in the new 4 bedroom home with a pool. Since the Mullet Ranch proper is a bit like "roughing it," we put our guests in the lap of luxury while we bunk at the ranch. Warning, some of our friends have contracted a severe case of "Mulletitis" and spend most of the year planning their return stay at the ranch. For those unfortunate few we give them a set of keys so they can get a fix whenever needed.

     13. Question: What is "Mulletitis”?

Reply    :  Not being a doctor I don't know the exact medical condition, but good people seem to be highly susceptible to contracting it. The most acute symptoms include extreme contentment, happiness, and overall feelings of well being. I also know it's a life long condition, from which one never recovers. One final note, the onset of this condition can not be predicted and tends to be rapid and overwhelming, with not wanting to return to work being the only negative side effect.
